ValWinkelman is a Professor of Theatre in the Department of Communication and Theatre in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. She is an award winning director and costume designer for Theatre AUM. Val teaches courses in Theatre Appreciation, Theatre History, Theatre Administration, Costume Design, Costume Construction, History of Dress, and Makeup Design. She is the Production Manager for the Texas Shakespeare Festival and has designed costumes for the Texas Shakespeare Festival, Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Springer Opera House, Circa '21 Dinner Theatre, West Virginia Public Theatre, Alabama Dance Theatre, Houston's Country Playhouse, and the Dallas Repertory Theatre. She is a recipient of the AUM Alumni Association Faculty Service Award and the FAME Outstanding Community Member Award. Val is an Outstanding Alumna of the University of North Texas and a past International Council of Fine Arts Fellow.  She is an Associate Member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society. She is the National Vice-Chair of Design, Technologies, and Management for the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival.
